Ingredients

For the Beef

  • 2 lbs (900 g) beef chuck roast or flank steak
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

1. Prepare the Sauce

  • In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.

2. Add to Slow Cooker

  • Place the beef in the slow cooker.
  • Pour the sauce over the beef, ensuring it is well coated.

3. Cook

  • Cover and cook on Low for 7–8 hours or High for 4–5 hours, until the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

4. Shred the Beef

  • Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
  • Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker.

5. Thicken the Sauce

  • Mix the cornstarch and water to make a slurry.
  • Stir the slurry into the slow cooker.
  • Cook on High for 15–20 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.

6. Serve

  • Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
  • Serve hot over rice or noodles.
