Ingredients

  • 4 ripe but firm pears (Bosc, Anjou, or Bartlett), halved and cored
  • ¼ cup (60ml) pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Optional Toppings

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Greek yogurt
  • Granola
  • Chopped toasted pecans
  • Extra maple syrup

Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush or spoon
  • Melon baller or spoon (for coring)
  • Aluminum foil (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2: Prepare the Pears

Wash the pears, slice them in half lengthwise, and remove the cores using a melon baller or small spoon.

Arrange the pear halves cut-side up in the prepared baking dish.

Step 3: Make the Maple Glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Step 4: Coat the Pears

Brush or spoon the maple glaze generously over each pear half.

Sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the pears if using.

Pour any remaining glaze into the bottom of the baking dish.

Step 5: Bake

Bake for 30–35 minutes, basting the pears with the pan juices halfway through cooking.

The pears are ready when they are tender and easily pierced with a fork while still holding their shape.

Step 6: Serve

Transfer the warm pears to serving plates.

Spoon the warm maple sauce from the baking dish over the pears and garnish with your favorite toppings.

Serve immediately.

Tips for Success

  • Choose pears that are ripe but still firm so they don’t become mushy.
  • Baste the pears during baking for extra flavor and moisture.
  • Add a pinch of ground ginger or cardamom for a deeper spiced flavor.
  • Toast the nuts before using for added crunch.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
