Ingredients (1 Serving)
- 2 oz (60 ml) blanco tequila
- 6 fresh blackberries
- 1 oz (30 ml) fresh grapefruit juice
- 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice
- ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup or agave syrup
- Grapefruit soda or sparkling water, to top
- Ice cubes
- Coarse salt (optional, for rimming)
- Lime wheel, grapefruit wedge, and blackberries for garnish
Instructions
- If desired, rim a highball glass with salt by rubbing a lime wedge around the rim and dipping it into salt.
- Add the blackberries to a cocktail shaker and muddle until they release their juices.
- Pour in the tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds.
- Strain into an ice-filled glass. For a smoother drink, use a fine-mesh strainer to remove blackberry seeds.
- Top with grapefruit soda or sparkling water.
- Stir gently and garnish with a lime wheel, grapefruit wedge, and a few fresh blackberries.
- Serve immediately and enjoy.
Tips
- Use fresh blackberries: They provide the brightest flavor and richest color.
- Choose a quality tequila: Blanco tequila offers a clean, crisp flavor that works best in this cocktail.
- Adjust sweetness: If your grapefruit soda is already sweet, reduce or omit the simple syrup.
- Strain well: Blackberries contain many seeds, so double-straining creates a smoother texture.
- Make it stronger: Use grapefruit soda instead of sparkling water for extra citrus flavor and sweetness.
- Try a mocktail version: Replace the tequila with additional sparkling water and a splash of blackberry syrup for a refreshing non-alcoholic drink.
Serving Suggestions
- Pair with tacos, grilled shrimp, fajitas, or fresh summer salads.
- Serve at barbecues, brunches, Cinco de Mayo celebrations, or poolside gatherings.
- Garnish with fresh mint for an extra burst of freshness.
