  • 4 burger buns, toasted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Spicy Sauce

  • ¼ cup vegan mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or sugar
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

For Serving

  • Dill pickle slices
  • Shredded lettuce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and salt.
  2. In a second bowl, whisk together plant-based milk and hot sauce.
  3. Dip each vegan chicken cutlet into the milk mixture, then coat thoroughly in the seasoned flour.
  4. Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the cutlets for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Mix all spicy sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
  8. Spread the sauce on the toasted buns.
  9. Add the crispy vegan chicken, pickles, and lettuce if desired.
  10. Top with the remaining bun and serve immediately.

Tips

  • Double-dredge the cutlets (milk → flour → milk → flour) for extra crunch.
  • Adjust the cayenne and hot sauce to control the spice level.
  • Use brioche-style vegan buns for a softer sandwich.
  • Add coleslaw for extra texture and flavor.
  • Serve with fries, potato wedges, or a fresh salad.

🌶️🍔 Crispy, spicy, and incredibly satisfying, this vegan fried “chicken” sandwich delivers all the flavor and crunch of the classic fast-food favorite.
