Instructions

Step 1: Bake the Cake

  1. Prepare and bake the cake according to package or recipe directions.
  2. Use two 8-inch round cake pans or one 9×13-inch pan.
  3. Allow the cake to cool completely.

Step 2: Prepare the Pan

  1. Line a springform pan or cake pan with plastic wrap.
  2. Leave enough overhang to help lift the cake later.

Step 3: Create the Ice Cream Layer

  1. Remove the ice cream from the freezer.
  2. Let it soften for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Spread the softened ice cream into the prepared pan.
  4. Smooth the top with an offset spatula.
  5. Freeze for 1–2 hours until firm.

Step 4: Make the Crunch Layer (Optional)

  1. Mix crushed cookies with melted butter.
  2. Stir until evenly coated.
  3. Spread over the frozen ice cream layer.
  4. Drizzle with fudge sauce.
  5. Freeze for 30 minutes.

This layer adds the classic ice cream cake crunch.


Step 5: Assemble the Cake

Option A: Two-Layer Cake

  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate.
  2. Carefully remove the frozen ice cream layer from the pan.
  3. Place it on top of the cake.
  4. Add the second cake layer.

Option B: Single Cake Layer

  1. Place the cake layer on a serving platter.
  2. Top with the frozen ice cream layer.

Step 6: Freeze

  1. Wrap the assembled cake tightly.
  2. Freeze for at least 4–6 hours or overnight.

The cake should be completely firm before frosting.

  1. Add heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla to a chilled bowl.
