Instructions
1. Prepare the Beans
- Place the black beans in a large bowl.

2. Mix the Ingredients
- Add the onion, bell pepper, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, tomato paste, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until well combined.
3. Form the Patties
- Divide the mixture into 4–6 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a burger patty.
- Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes to help them hold together.
4. Cook the Burgers
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
5. Assemble
- Place each patty on a toasted burger bun.
- Add your favorite toppings and serve immediately.
Tips
- If the mixture feels too wet, add more breadcrumbs a tablespoon at a time.
- For extra flavor, sauté the onion and bell pepper before mixing them into the beans.
- To make them vegan, replace the egg with a flax egg (1 tbsp ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tbsp water).
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, for a lighter option.
- Freeze uncooked patties between sheets of parchment paper for up to 3 months.
