  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Bacon Garlic Cream Sauce

  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Optional Garnishes

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • Extra grated Parmesan cheese

Equipment Needed

  • Large oven-safe skillet or cast-iron skillet
  • Tongs
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Instant-read meat thermometer

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels.

Season both sides evenly with:

  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Italian seasoning

Let the chicken rest for 10–15 minutes while preparing the remaining ingredients.

Step 2: Cook the Bacon

Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat.

Add the chopped bacon and cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crispy.

Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate using a slotted spoon.

Leave about 2 tablespoons of bacon drippings in the skillet and discard any excess.

Step 3: Sear the Chicken

Add the olive oil to the bacon drippings if needed.

Place the chicken thighs skin-side down in the hot skillet.

Cook for 5–6 minutes until the skin is deeply golden and crispy.

Flip the chicken and cook for another 3–4 minutes.

Transfer the chicken to a plate.

Step 4: Make the Garlic Cream Sauce

Reduce the heat to medium.

Add the butter to the same skillet.

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds, until fragrant.

Pour in the chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.

Allow the broth to simmer for 2–3 minutes.

Whisk in the softened cream cheese until smooth.

Slowly stir in the heavy cream.

Add:

  • Parmesan cheese
  • Dijon mustard
  • Dried thyme
  • Dried oregano
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (if using)

Continue stirring until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.

Taste and adjust with salt and black pepper as needed.

Stir in half of the cooked bacon, reserving the remainder for garnish.

Step 5: Bake

Return the chicken thighs to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce without fully covering the crispy skin.

Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Step 6: Finish the Dish

Remove the skillet from the oven.

Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes.

Spoon the creamy garlic sauce over each chicken thigh.

Sprinkle with the remaining crispy bacon, chopped parsley, fresh thyme, and extra Parmesan cheese.

Serve immediately.

  • Pat the chicken dry before seasoning to help the skin crisp beautifully.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the smoothest, richest sauce.
  • Avoid boiling the cream sauce after adding the dairy to prevent it from separating.
  • Leave the chicken skin exposed while baking to maintain its crisp texture.
  • Garnish with extra crispy bacon and fresh herbs just before serving for added flavor, texture, and visual appeal.
